Introducing the Timeless Elegance of Allegra

May 21, 2018

apaiser has just unveiled what could arguably be described as its most timeless design to date in Allegra, a collection which embodies a modern sensibility merged with eclectic yet classic influences drawn across several decades past.

Originally created as bath couture pieces for the Edition Hotel, London in 2010, this collection draws much from its original setting. This iconic site is steeped in historical references, first as grand Georgian townhouses in 1835 and later as the Berners Hotel realised in the elegant Belle Époque style.

Like its genesis in the Edition Hotel, London, Allegra now joyously celebrates both the past and present as much as it does the authenticity and originality of a wide range of influences over time. Here, at Number 10 Berners Street, Fitzrovia, hotels maestro, Ian Schrager, alongside the design team of Yabu Pushelberg, New York, drew from an eclectic mix of styles. Original features were preserved and historic influences drawn upon in perfect partnership with the very best in contemporary comfort and modern technology.

This very same approach was employed by the apaiser design team when first approached by Edition Hotels to create a bath which echoed the building’s past yet suitably reflected its future incarnation as a luxury hotel of cutting edge style.

Drawing inspiration from such evocative elements as a classic English club chair or the disciplined curves of a Cartier timepiece, the Allegra bath, with the addition of a petite bath, basin, vanity and bath step, has been fully realised as a collection which embodies refined elegance and modern sophistication.

The rigorous forms and lines of each design appear as a confluence of both the masculine and feminine – a balance so superbly achieved by famed jeweller, Louis Francois Cartier – resulting in a bathware collection which transcends period and place, and instead epitomises both classic refinement and edgy urbanity. As such, Allegra lends itself to a wide range of interior styles and settings;

Bath – Clean lines and a deep ergonomic recline utterly imbues elegance. The taller model compliments greater ceiling heights, while the more compact pairs perfectly with smaller spaces.

Basin – Designed to complement the hero bath design, the Allegra basin is delicate yet bold and perfectly proportioned to suit any bathroom setting.

Vanity – Departing the curve in lieu of the rectangular form celebrated equally over those classic periods past, the Allegra vanity’s sleekly elongated form marries the classic with the contemporary.

Apaiser at Prestigious ‘Handmade’ Exhibition in Milan

April 16, 2018

apaiser has been selected for inclusion in the prestigious ‘Handmade’ exhibition which opens on Tues 17 April, 2018 in Milan as part of Salone del Mobile.

An initiative of leading international design platform, Wallpaper, ‘Handmade’ is an annual event now in its 7th (seventh) year. Each year a new theme underscores the fair and from this springs a series of special events, expert talks, a pop-up store, plus a dedicated limited edition of the award winning magazine surrounding this unique global gathering of leading design names. For 2018 ‘Wellness and Wonder’ becomes the underlying foundation or focal point of ‘Handmade’, and where notions of ‘body replenishment and harmony restoration’ would appear in perfect step with the apaiser bathware ethos.

apaiser’s Sampan collection was specifically selected by the esteemed panel led by Wallpaper for inclusion in this year’s execution. Sampan is a collaboration between apaiser and WOHA, one of the world’s hottest architectural practices, based in Singapore. WOHA are responsible for some of the most ground breaking design projects the world over and are highly regarded for their integration of environmental and social principles, at every stage of the design process.

The Sampan collection from apaiser in association with WOHA was inspired by the eponymous and ancient wooden watercraft which continues to ply the Singaporean waterways to this day. These incredibly efficient and nimble vessels were the seed to an altogether ground-breaking range of baths and basins whose shapes and considered functionality represent a new aesthetic, unseen in the greater bathware market.

Also receiving plaudits is apaiser’s own staunch environmentally friendly mandate, coupled with a dedication to the craft of handmade creativity. Together they rendered apaiser & WOHA’s Sampan collection a worthy place, in this highly coveted design showcase, which brings together the very best in design expertise and craftsmanship from around the world. It is no small wonder that ‘Handmade’ has become the go to destination for the most cutting edge design aficionados across wholesale, retail, manufacturing, marketing, media and beyond…all keen to discover a bright new design star, hot new trend or dazzling design innovation.

‘Handmade’ opens at Mediateca Santa Teresa, Via della Moscova 28, Milan 17 April – 22 April 2018

Heritage reimagined in a stunning bathware collection

September 19, 2017

apaiser is excited to unveil its latest and arguably most ground-breaking collection to date – SAMPAN – developed in collaboration with leading international design firm, WOHA.

The Sampan collection applies the strikingly unique tapered shapes of the traditional boats of the Singapore waterfront to a bathware collection of revolutionary design. Reflected in a series of baths and basins, as well as an innovative ‘shower bath’, these unique designs transform bathing into something more akin to a romantic journey!

Singapore is the home of WOHA, and also the Asia-Pacific base of Australian bathware company, apaiser. The WOHA studio, located in a conserved cluster of traditional ‘shophouses’ behind Boat Quay, is where the iconic sampan boats were once moored in great numbers on the Singapore. river These areas, steeped in colonial history, are at the heart of the story behind the Sampan collection.

Sampan – the Cantonese word meaning three boards – describes these uniquely designed but simple form of watercraft, fashioned by hand from a flat plank of wood as its base, with two angled planks making up the sides. Celebration of this vanishing heritage was the direct inspiration for this stunning new bathware collection. Like all apaiser designs, each piece is hand crafted using the innovative material exclusive to apaiser known as apaisermarble. Sampan comes in four elegant shades – Glacier, Diamond White, Starry Night and Luxe Grey – the five designs across baths and basins sized to suit a variety of interior applications, with the unique ‘shower bath’ a particularly clever innovation which responds to more limited spatial options given its dual purpose form. Sampan became part of WOHA’s dedicated submission for MAISON OBJET PARIS, 2017, and which has ultimately seen this forward-thinking firm selected as ‘Designer of the Year – Asia’, an award to be officially announced on September 08, 2017. The Sampan collection itself will be available immediately thereafter, via apaiser showrooms globally (or visit www.apaiser.com/sampan).
